Review of Physiotherapy MSK - Doncaster Royal Infirmary
28th April 2024

I was lucky enough to get a cancellation. Mark the physiotherapist was very patient, professional and knowledgeable. He gave me lots of tips and instructions what to do exercise wise. It was a very positive experience.he also showed my wife how to do some work on my knee. We both came away feeling valued and positive. The person on reception rang and offered a cancellation and remembered when we checked in. She had a very caring manner.

Suggested improvements
Nothing. It was a very positive experience.

Review of Emergency Department A&E - Doncaster Royal Infirmary

On 17/4/24 I accompanied my 95 year old mother to D R I - she had been sent there by our GP with chest pains. The Emerg. Dept.reception was very accommodating and sent us immediately to the red waiting room for tests. A VERY caring young Egyptian doctor talked to us and organised appropriate tests. We awaited results. We sat in the red waiting room for 5 hours with 2 or 3 other patients. Medical nursing staff were around performing their duties - a group of 4 rearranged furniture in the waiting room. Nurses sat chatting at the nusing station not seemingly too pressured by patients care. During this time not one nurse spoke or offered my exhausted mother comfort or reassurance! Not one word! No eye contact or recognition of her long wait! After 5 hours I approached the nursing station and asked for help for my wilting mum. Within 10 mins a nurse offered her a sandwich and a bed to rest on. Our doctor arrived with test results and discharged her. After about a 7 hour process I felt terribly disappointed with the nursing staff who had shown so little consideration for this frail old woman.

Suggested improvements
Obviously the on duty nursing staff could have shown more care and consideration for this very elderly patient. I was shocked by their lack of concern.

From Admission to leaving I was treated very well. With explanations given to any questions. I was also very impressed to the staff treatment of 2 elderly confused patients. They consistently reassured them and saw to their needs no matter how busy they were.

Suggested improvements
Perhaps a reclining chair would be more comfortable for some patients rather than being on a trolley.

All the nurses were absolutely amazing and so so kind. Holly was especially lovely and amazing at her job. She was so empathetic and knowledgeable and made me feel so comfortable and at ease. The ward staff managed my pain and were so attentive.

Suggested improvements
A patient across from me was was unable to anything for herself and seed neglected on some days (dependant on which staff were on and the amount of staff.) it would often be me getting out for bed to help her to get water or to alert the staff she has had an accident of was trying to get out of bed. She also wasn’t fed at all until approx 9pm one day.

Seen very promptly and symptoms listened to. Such a shame that an X-ray couldn’t be prescribed following delivery of symptoms and we had to wait further for a doctor to listen to the same symptoms to then prescribe it. Other than that radiology and then the diagnosis in the children’s ED was fabulous. What a great team working!

Suggested improvements
When symptoms clearly indicate a fracture can nurses not be trained to prescribe an X-ray?
